Keep Your Washington DC Insurance License Up to Date. CPMI makes it easy and affordable!

DC Insurance CE Requirements

Insurance continuing education (also known as insurance CE) helps keep agents up to date on various aspects pertaining to the sale of insurance, and is required for insurance producers in states with license renewal education requirements.

In DC insurance producers are required to complete their continuing education requirements once every 2 years to renew their license. *

DC insurance continuing education required credit hours must be completed per the requirements of the Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking. Producers must complete 24 hours of CE, 3 of which must be ethics every two years to renew their license.

Property and casualty agents must complete 3 of their 24 CE hours in flood insurance during their first renewal period.

Additional information:

  • Excess credit hours cannot carry over to the next reporting period.
  • Renewal must be completed before the end of February.
  • Agents dealing with homeowners or personal lines coverage must complete 2 hours of CE in flood insurance as part of their 24-credit requirement.

There are no exemptions to the DC insurance continuing education requirements. Non-resident producers are required to comply with the CE requirements of their home state.

A doctor's certification of a long-term illness or disability, active duty in the United States Armed Forces (outside of the DC area), or an emergency deemed sufficient by the Commissioner can be reason for a temporary waiver to the CE requirement, as handled between producers and the Department on a case-by-case basis.

Under federal law, even exempt individuals must take the required LTC course before they can begin selling long term care policies.
