License Renewal Requirements
In Kansas, license renewals require 18 hours of CE (including 3 hours of ethics). All producers must renew their license every two years prior to the last day of their birth month, in an even or odd year, depending on whether the producer was born in an even or odd year.
Producers may renew their license (if they have required CE credit) up to 90 days prior to their biennial renewal date.
Excess CE credit hours do not carry over to the next license renewal period.
Nonresident licensees are considered exempt from Kansas insurance CE as long as they maintain an active resident license in another state.
Producers who hold a limited line license for pre-need only do not have a CE requirement. Up to 90 days prior to their biennial renewal date, they must file a Pre-Need Only Insurance Producer Biennial Affirmation affirming they have transacted only pre-need insurance business during the renewal period.
Time for your Kansas insurance license renewal? It's important to know the requirements:
- 18 hours of CE are required every 2 years. Producers must take 3 hours of Ethics; the remainder are at the producer’s discretion.
- Repeated courses do not count twice for credit in the same renewal period.
- Courses must be completed during the biennium to which they are being applied. Credits do not carry over.
- Online, textbook, or classroom courses are acceptable.
- Courses completion exams are open book.
- The Department will not accept any completion certificates from producers (whether in paper or electronic form). After you pass our course, we will submit your completion information to the Kansas Insurance Department.
Annuity Suitability Training Requirement:
To sell, solicit or negotiate annuity products Kansas requires life producers to complete a four-hour annuity suitability training course.
Long-Term Care Training Requirement:
Accident and Health producers need to complete an initial four hours of Partnership training, followed by one hour of training prior to every license renewal.
Flood:
Property and Casualty producers must complete a three-hour Flood course prior to selling flood insurance policies.
