North Dakota CE Requirements

Insurance continuing education (also known as insurance CE) helps keep agents up to date on various aspects pertaining to the sale of insurance, and is required for insurance producers in states with license renewal education requirements.

In North Dakota insurance producers are required to complete their continuing education requirements once every 2 years to renew their license. *

North Dakota insurance continuing education required credit hours must be completed every two years per the requirements of the North Dakota Department of Insurance.

All licensed resident producers must complete 24 hours of CE every two years, including 3 hours of ethics courses to fulfill North Dakota insurance license renewal requirements for Life/Health, Property/Casualty, and Crop Hail producers.

Additional information:

  • Licenses expire on the last day of the producer's birth month every two years.
  • Any course approved for CE in North Dakota may be taken for ND insurance CE credit.
  • Up to 12 excess credit hours may count towards the next ND insurance license renewal period as long as they are taken in the 2nd half of the previous term.
  • Courses may not be repeated for credit in the same 2-year renewal term.
  • CE courses do not require a proctor.

After reaching 62 years of age producers may be exempt from the ND CE requirement if their age plus the number of years licensed equal 85 or greater. Nonresident agents and limited-lines agents are exempt from North Dakota insurance continuing education requirements.

Under federal law, even exempt individuals must take the required LTC course before they can begin selling long term care policies.
