Utah Insurance Continuing Education (CE) Requirements

License Renewal Requirements
Utah insurance CE is managed by the Utah Insurance Department, and there are a set number of requirements that they have implemented.
All licensed resident producers and adjusters (excluding title producers) must complete 24 hours of CE every two years, including three hours of ethics study.
Title only producers are required to complete 12 total hours (6 in the classroom or an equivalent, and 3 in ethics).
For all others, 12 hours must be completed in the classroom or classroom equivalent courses.
After being licensed for 20 years, agents are only required to complete a total of six hours, three of which must be in ethics. Additionally, insurance producers licensed before April 1st, 1978 may be exempt from the CE requirement.
There are other Utah insurance CE exemptions:
- Certain professional designations may be considered to fulfill state requirements.
- Active-duty servicemen and servicewomen are exempt.
However, the required LTC course must be completed by all individuals before they can begin selling long-term care policies. Federal law does not exclude those who qualify for exemptions.
When it’s time to renew your Utah insurance license(s), CPMI will help you complete CE requirements with our courses. We’ve compiled a list for you to use as reference for your requirement completions:
- License renewal date is the last day of the license issuance month, biennially.
- 24 hours of CE are required every 2 years.
- 3 of the 24 hours must be in ethics.
- At least 12 of the 24 hours must be in class or a "classroom equivalent."
- CE credit hours cannot be carried forward to future license renewal periods.
- Agents are not required to complete courses approved for line-specific credit.
- Courses cannot be repeated for credit within the same renewal period.
- No exam is required.
