West Virginia Insurance CE Requirements

License Renewal Requirements
Biennially, you must complete CE in the state of West Virginia, which is required and managed by the West Virginia Office of the Insurance Commissioner.
Credit hour requirements include:
- 24 hours of CE every two years.
- 3 hours of ethics (within the biennial requirement).
Other important information to know:
- You may take courses in any line of authority.
- Excess CE credit hours (up to 6 hours) can carry over to subsequent license renewal periods. Extra ethics credits carry over as general credit.
- Courses may not be repeated for credit within one renewal period.
Adjusters and producers who only have licenses in credit insurance, travel insurance, or surety are not required to complete the above CE requirements.
However, under federal law, even exempt individuals are required to take an LTC course before they can begin selling long term care policies.
Time for your West Virginia insurance license renewal? It's important to know the requirements:
- 24 hours of CE are required for renewal.
- Online, textbook, or classroom courses are acceptable.
- Agents may take any approved course for credit (Life licensees can take Property insurance courses if they desire).
- You must pass your course completion examination.
The West Virginia Department of Insurance handles your completion information and we will send it to them after you pass the course.
