Indiana Insurance Continuing Education (CE) Requirements

License Renewal Requirements
The Indiana Department of Insurance requires that all licensed resident producers must complete 24 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years. Additional requirements include:
- 3 of the mandated hours for Life and Health Producers must be devoted to ethics.
- Licenses must be renewed by the last day of the producers’ birth month.
- Property and casualty producers who sell flood insurance must complete a one-time 4-hour flood course on flood insurance and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
- Prior to selling, soliciting, or marketing any LTC products, producers must complete an 8-hour basic LTC continuing education course.
- Producers must complete a one-time annuity training course approved for at least 4 hours before selling, soliciting, or negotiating annuity products in Indiana.
- Adjuster license renewal requires 24 hours of CE every 2 years. There is NOT an Ethics requirement for Adjusters.
- For continuing education (CE) credits to count towards license renewal, they must be taken during the validity period of the previous license renewal period.
Indiana does not require continuing education (CE) for:
- Limited lines producers who are licensed without requiring an examination.
- Limited lines credit producers.
- Producers at least 70 years of age who have been licensed for at least 20 continuous years.
- Active-duty servicemen and servicewomen.
Time for your Indiana insurance license renewal? It's important to know the requirements:
- 24 hours of continuing education (CE) are required every 2 years.
- Life and Health Producers must include 3 hours of ethics in their 24 hours.
- Adjusters are NOT required to complete 3 hours of ethics.
- You must pass score of 70% or better on your course completion test.
- Courses completion exams must be proctored by a licensed agent and are not open book.
Although some states allow excess hours to roll over to the next renewal period, Indiana does not carry over hours. Indiana also does not allow producers to repeat courses within the same renewal term.
