Pennsylvania Insurance Continuing Education (CE) Requirements

License Renewal Requirements
Every two years, agents and many other insurance professionals must complete Pennsylvania insurance CE (continuing education) to meet the requirements upheld by the Pennsylvania Insurance Department.
Important information to know:
- Producers born in even years renew in even years, producers born in odd years renew in odd years.
- Many states require that courses be taken in subject matter that is approved for the particular license or licenses an agent holds. Pennsylvania does not have this requirement. For example, Life Insurance agents may enroll in a course that offers instruction on Property & Casualty Insurance.
- Up to 24 credit hours may be carried forward to the next Pennsylvania insurance license renewal period.
- Courses may not be repeated for credit in the same two-year renewal term.
Do you meet an exemption recognized by the state of Pennsylvania? The following individuals are exempt:
- Public adjusters, surplus lines, limited lines, and individuals who were able to get licensed without an examination.
- Nonresident agents.
- Those given a special exemption due to hardship.
Federal law requires that even exempt individuals take the required LTC course. Once completed, they will be allowed to sell long-term care policies.
Time for your Pennsylvania insurance license renewal? It's important to know the requirements:
- Every 2 years = 24 hours of continuing education (CE) required.
- Acceptable courses: online, textbook, or classroom.
- Agents may take any approved course for credit.
- No course repeats in the same renewal term (two years).
- You can carry forward up to 24 hours of credit into the next renewal period.
- Courses completion exams are closed book and must be proctored.
Your completion information will be passed on to the state once you have passed.
