Rhode Island Insurance Continuing Education (CE) Requirements

Rhode Island insurance continuing education (CE) requirements:
- Credit hours must be completed every two years, according to the requirements of the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation.
- All licensed resident producers must complete 24 hours of continuing education (CE) in the two-year time frame.
- 3 of the 24 hours must be in ethics.
- As many as 12 extra credit hours may be used towards the next Rhode Island insurance license renewal.
- Courses may not be repeated for credit in the same two-year renewal term.
Individuals exempt from continuing education (CE) requirements in the Rhode Island include:
- Adjusters
- Limited lines producers
- Agents who were able to get licensed without an examination
- Nonresident agents
- Agents age 55 and older who have been continually licensed for 25 years or more
All individuals are required to complete the long-term care (LTC) course before they can begin selling long-term care policies. This includes exempt persons and is mandated by federal law.
Time for your Rhode Island insurance license renewal? It's important to know the requirements:
- Every 2 years, 24 hours of continuing education (CE) is required.
- Ethics requirement: 3 of the 24 hours must be in this area of study.
- You may carry over up to 12 credits into your next renewal.
- The same course cannot be repeated for credit in the same renewal period.
- Online, textbook, or classroom courses are acceptable.
- A score of 70% or better is required on your course completion examination.
- You may take your course completion examination with an open book and without a proctor.
CPMI will send your completion information to the Rhode Island Department of Insurance after you have passed the course.
