Iowa Insurance CE Requirement
Ensure your license is up to date with CPMI’s Insurance Continuing Education (CE) courses. The state of Iowa requires that all insurance producers complete 36 hours of CE every three years to maintain a valid license. Our affordable online classes help you learn new content, prepare for the exam(s), and maintain a working knowledge of current insurance practices.

All Iowa-licensed resident producers working in major lines must complete 36 hours of CE every three years, including 3 hours of ethics. Any credits past 36 hours do not roll over to another renewal period.
Like most states, one course may not be repeated twice in the same licensing renewal period for credit.
The only exemptions to Iowa CE requirements are active-duty servicemen and servicewomen.
In accordance with federal law, all individuals must take an LTC course before selling long term care policies.
Time for your Iowa insurance license renewal? It's important to know the requirements:
- Are required to take 36 hours of CE every 3 years.
- 3 hours must be in ethics.
- May take any approved course for credit.
- Must score a 70% or better on the course completion exam.
- Course completion exams are proctored and are not open book.
According to state guidelines, courses cannot be repeated for credit within a single reporting period and extra credit hours do not carry over to the next renewal period.
After you pass our course, we will send your completion information on to the Iowa Department of Insurance.
