South Carolina CE Requirements
The state of South Carolina requires many insurance professionals to maintain their license(s) through Insurance Continuing Education (CE) programming. CPMI has designed courses that can help you meet South Carolina Department of Insurance license renewal requirements.

License Renewal Requirements
Every two years, South Carolina insurance CE credit hours must be completed to meet South Carolina Department of Insurance standards.
All licensed resident producers are required to finish 24 hours of CE in that time frame, with 3 hours included in ethics. Additionally, 8 hours must be completed in line of authority.
If you are an agent licensed in both Life/Health and Property/Casualty, you will need to accomplish at least 8 hours in Life/Health and 8 hours in Property/Casualty.
As many as 18 extra credit hours may be used towards the next South Carolina insurance license renewal.
You are exempt from South Carolina insurance CE requirements if any of you meet any of the following professional descriptions:
- Licensed attorney
- Limited lines producer
- No-resident agent
However, federal law stipulates that even exempt individuals must take the required LTC course. Once completed, you may begin to sell long-term care policies.
Time for your South Carolina insurance license renewal? It's important to know the requirements:
- Complete 24 hours of CE every 2 years (with 3 of the 24 hours in ethics).
- Pass an approved course (online, via textbook, or in a classroom).
- Agents may take only courses for lines in which they are licensed.
- Agents with Life/Health & Property/Casualty licenses must complete at least 8 hours of credit specific to L/H and 8 hours pertaining to P/C.
- You must pass your course examination.
- Courses completion exams must be proctored and are not open book.
- Up to 18 hours of credit can be carried forward to the next renewal period.
- You may not repeat a course for credit within the same period; completion dates must be at least two years apart.
We will send your completion information to the South Carolina Department of Insurance, once you pass the course.
If you are outside of South Carolina, the National Insurance Producer Registry can provide more information for insurance license renewals in other states.
